Aiden Murphy, partner with Crowe Horwath, was delighted to return as a speaker at the Irish Hotel Federation’s 78th Annual Conference which was held at the Gleneagle Hotel & INEC Killarney on Tuesday 1st March 2016.
Following a record year for tourism growth with overseas visitor numbers in 2015 exceeding 8.5 million Irish hoteliers are optimistic for 2016 performance. Harnessing this positivity the theme for this year’s IHF conference was Driving Innovation.
Aiden Murphy presented on financial performance and debt stabilisation within the hotel industry. He discussed the regional disparity in the recovery within the sector, emerging pressures on trading performance and an overview of the changes in the debt levels attached to the hotel sector. Aiden also cautioned on the potential impact of a weakening sterling exchange on demand from UK visitors, who have been sheltered from the impact of the increasing average room rates in recent years by favourable currency conditions.
